Scientifically anchored: RIASEC — and what we built on top
The foundation is the RIASEC model by psychologist John Holland — one of the most thoroughly researched models in vocational psychology. Its core idea: job satisfaction happens when interests and work environment match. Career counselors around the world work with these same six directions; Module 1 measures them with 48 statements on a 7-point scale, drawing on the O*NET Interest Profiler.
The Career Compass builds a multi-stage journey on top of it: Modules 2–4 add work style, work values, and self-image. The career field matching runs on fixed, versioned rules against a curated catalog of career fields with concrete occupations — the same answers always lead to the same recommendation, and every recommendation backs up its reasons with your own scores, including one honest friction point. We also deliberately keep interests and self-image apart: what you trust yourself to do is a self-assessment, not a measured ability.
For occupation naming, the Career Compass uses the ESCO classification of the European Commission — the EU’s multilingual reference for occupations and skills. That way your recommendations carry the names employers, counseling services, and job boards actually use — as job titles common in your country. And in all honesty: the Career Compass is orientation, not career counseling and not an aptitude assessment. It shows you directions with reasons — deciding and setting off is still up to you.
